01/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - Negotiations progressing for agreement on investment protection. On Thursday 1 October, the European Commission stated that the third round of negotiations between the EU and Burma/Myanmar for an agreement on investment protection, which took place in Rangoon on 21-23 September, enabled the parties to move forwards on the basis of progress made during the first two negotiating sessions in February and May. Alongside these negotiations, the Commission launched an impact assessment of the future agreement as regards sustainability. The future agreement, the first autonomous agreement of this type negotiated by the Commission, aims to protect investors from both sides and to give them fair treatment. It also aims to offer them protection against discrimination and expropriation without protection, and to ensure the transfer of capital (see EUROPE 11254). (EH)
