Brussels, 30/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - The first trialogue talks between European Parliament, Council of Ministers and European Commission that were due to take place on Wednesday 30 October on the shareholders' rights directive have been postponed upon request from the Commission for timetabling reasons.
No date has been set for the start of these inter-institutional negotiations but it is unlikely to be possible until the end of October, explains the European Parliament. This is a controversial issue because the EP introduced measures into its negotiating position vis-a-vis public country-by-country reporting of payments to force companies to publicly disclose information such as the tax they pay or their turnover. The EP has a wide majority for this measure and warns at the outset that it would be difficult or impossible to accept an agreement with the Council if this public country-by-country reporting is dropped during the negotiations.
