30/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - Tusk against countries reluctant to take in refugees. Speaking at the United Nations on Tuesday 29 September, European Council President Donald Tusk railed against the countries that are not making much effort to take in refugees. He said that the myth prevails that the EU is the only rich place on earth. This is not true, he said, as there are other rich places comparable to the EU in terms of wealth. Seeming to rail against the Arab countries, such as Saudi Arabia, which are accused of not making an effort to take in refugees, Tusk said that while the EU is being torn apart by quotas because this is important for the EU, other countries, “by contrast”, that are “represented here”, are dealing with the problem with a much more simple response - not allowing migrants and refugees to enter their territory. This is why, Tusk said, to suggest that the EU is setting an example of bad treatment or indifference towards asylum seekers smacks of pure hypocrisy. (SP)
