Brussels, 29/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - European Commission Vice-President with responsibility for the Digital Single Market Andrus Ansip, during a two-day visit to Berlin (28-29 September) held discussions with senior German officials on the various aspects and implications of the digital single market strategy.
Improving consumer protection, copyright, telecoms, standards and e-commerce were among the issues discussed. The commissioner welcomed the support of Federal Home Affairs Minister Thomas de Maizière for the digital single market strategy, the goal of free movement of data and cybersecurity. He also hailed the comments of Justice and Consumer Protection Minister Heiko Maas that what was needed was a less rigid, more flexible copyright framework and that more must be done to combat hate speech online. “Keine Angst, Copyright modernisieren nicht abschaffen (Have no fears, copyright must be modernised not abolished). Protect creators, legal and paid border access creates new revenue for creation”, tweeted Ansip. (Original version in French by Isabelle Lamberty)
