Brussels, 28/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament's constitutional affairs committee recommends changes to the European election rules to make them more European.
According to Jo Leinen (S&D, Germany), whose draft report was adopted on Monday 28 September, the main changes are as follows: - lists of candidates for the European elections and the heads of list for each European party must be announced at least twelve weeks before the elections; - lists of candidates must strictly respect gender equality; - the logo connection of a national party and its associated European party family must be indicated on the ballot paper; - European passport-holders living temporarily outside the EU may take part in European elections; - the member states are asked to reduce the minimum voting age to sixteen and to encourage e-voting.
