Four judges and an advocate general appointed for six years

Brussels, 16/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 16 September, the Council of the EU appointed 4 judges and an Advocate General to the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU).

Camelia Toader (Romania) and Marko Ilešiè (Slovenia) were reappointed as judges for a further six years. Michail Vilaras (Greece) and Eugene Regan (Ireland) were appointed as judges and Manuel Campos Sánchez-Bordona (Spain) as advocate-general to the Court of Justice. All appointments apply to a term of office from 7 October 2015 to 6 October 2021.

Ian Stewart Forrester as judge to the General Court will replace Nicholas Forwood (both United Kingdom) for the remainder of the latter's term of office until the end of August 2019. The mandates of the judges to the General Court of the EU for Juraj Schwarcz (Slovakia) and Heikki Kanninen (Finland) have been extended till 31 August 2022.

A partial replacement of judges and Advocates General takes place every three years. With these appointments, the replacement exercise of 14 judges and 4 Advocates General, whose mandate expires on 6 October, is complete. In compliance with a Council decision of 2013, the number of Advocates General increases from 9 to 11 as from 7 October. (Mathieu Bion)
