Brussels, 11/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 11 September, the European Commission explained that it had taken note of the decision by companies Telenor and TeliaSonera to abandon their merger plans in Denmark. The Commission said that the talks with the parties to date had not managed to address its concerns and it had opened an in-depth investigation on 8 April 2015.
“Every case has to be assessed on its own facts and merits. In this specific case, based on the Commission's in-depth analysis and evidence gathered, we are convinced that the significant competition concerns required an equally significant remedy,” explained Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager, adding: “This means the creation of a fourth mobile network operator. What the parties offered was not sufficient to avoid harm to competition in Danish mobile markets.” (Elodie Lamer)
