11/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - Belgian appointed to head up EMCDDA. On Thursday 10 September, Alexis Goosdeel (Belgium) was chosen to succeed Wolfgang Götz (Germany) as Director of the Lisbon-based European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA). Goosdeel was selected by the EMCDDA management board from among the three candidates retained for the post by the European Commission. Before taking up his new post on 1 January 2016, he will be required to make a statement before the European Parliament by the end of September and to respond to questions from members of the Parliament's civil liberties, justice and home affairs committee (LIBE). Goosdeel has been working for the EMCDDA since 1999. (JK)
