07/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - Sector says European air traffic doing well. According to a study published on Saturday 5 September by ACI EUROPE (which represents over 450 airports in 45 EU member states), European air traffic experienced strong growth in the first half of 2015. This is largely due to air passenger traffic, which grew by 4.5% between the start of January and the end of June. Goods transport recorded a slight increase (of 0.5%) over the same period. The number of aeroplane movements progressed by 2%, showing a strengthening of air capacities. “This trend of growth in passenger traffic is expected to continue for the rest of the year”, said ECI Director General Olivier Jankovec. The geopolitical instability in North Africa has led to some of the leisure traffic being re-directed to European destinations, he added. (PH)
