07/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - Commission-Oxfam action to raise public awareness of migrants. At Milan Expo on Friday 4 September, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides and Oxfam International Executive Director Winnie Byanyima launched a series of events organised jointly last weekend to raise public awareness of the distress of the 59.6 million refugees in the world. On Sunday 6 September, the first international showing of the documentary “District Zero” took place as part of this. The documentary was filmed in the Zaatari camp, which houses the majority of Syrian refugees in Jordan. The Commission and Oxfam are giving a voice to the voiceless through their “EUsavesLives/You save Lives” campaign, publishing the stories and history of refugees in Syria, South Sudan and the Central African Republic. The campaign can be consulted at http://www.eusavelives.org . (AN)
