Brussels, 07/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 7 September, the European Commission decided to allocate €1 million so that children who are affected or made orphans by Ebola in West Africa might have access to education and receive psycho-social support.
The funding is taken from the budget of €11 million that has been allocated this year for educational projects in conflict areas under the EU Children of Peace initiative.
“We must give hope to the children affected by the devastating consequences of the Ebola epidemic. Around 6 million boys and girls have missed school”, says European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides.
An exhibition of photographs illustrating the use of this EU aid is currently being held in the Berlaymont Building (European Commission headquarters), Brussels, until 23 September. (Aminata Niang)
