07/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - Miguel Arias Canete in Pacific to prepare COP21. On 7-11 September, European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Canete is taking part in the 46th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders meeting in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. His speech will focus on the fight against climate change in small island states - which are found to be the most vulnerable to the impact of climate disturbance. The forum will be the opportunity for Arias Canete to strengthen his alliance with this region in order to facilitate the success of the Paris climate conference (COP21, 30 November-11 December). “This year's forum will be an important opportunity to unite together with the view to secure a strong and credible global climate deal that will significantly accelerate the global transition to a climate resilient sustainable future”, he said in a press release on Monday 7 September.
