Digital sector expands in France. According to a report by McKinsey consultants France, the digital sector now accounts for 5.5% of French GDP and is worth €113 billion. It will contribute to around 25% of national growth, as opposed to 20% in 2009. These figures testify to the growth experienced in the digitalisation of the French economy. By 2020, the digital sector's contribution to French prosperity will be around 7% and almost 1.5 million jobs are currently directly or indirectly linked to the digital sector in France. The study also highlights the fact that French consumers spent €57 billion in 2014 on the Internet and that 71% of employees use information technology in their work. In 2013, French digital companies accounted for a total turnover of €7.4 billion, of which €2.6 billion came from Dassault Systèmes, €1.26 billion from Ubisoft and €444 million from Criteo. The next major challenge will involve Big Data, which between 2014 and 2018 is expected to account for annual growth of 24.6%. Compared to other member states, the study also illustrates that: 1) 14% of French businesses received an order on the Internet in 2013, compared to 26% in Germany; 2) 60% of them have their own website as opposed to 89% in Sweden.
