02/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - Europeans hail return of opposition to Parliament. On Tuesday 1 September, Europeans hailed the return of the main opposition party, the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM), to the Parliament of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) after several months of boycott. The SDSM's return is part of the agreement obtained in June and July, with the EU's facilitation (see EUROPE 11360), after months of political instability. European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn welcomed the SDSM's return, which he described as “an important step towards implementation of the agreement”. Hahn tweeted that the EU was monitoring the situation closely and expected “further substantial progress in line with the agreed commitments and timeline”. His spokesperson, Maja Kocijancic, added that the EU expected the “parliament to start work on reform priorities in the interest of the country”. (CG)
