Brussels, 01/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini announced 19 senior appointments to EU delegations across the globe on Monday 31 August. These follow on from the 16 appointments published at the end of July (see EUROPE 11369). Four further appointments of heads of EU delegations will be announced in due course, the European External Action Service said in a press release.
Europe. Piotr Switalski, a Polish national, has been appointed Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, and Hansjoerg Haber, a German national, will take over as Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey.
Middle East. Ralph-Joseph Tarraf (German) has been appointed as Head of the EU Delegation to West Bank and Gaza Strip. Italian nationals Andrea Matteo Fontana and Patrizio Fondi are to become Heads of the EU Delegation to Jordan and to the United Arab Emirates respectively.
South America. Former Spanish MEP José Ignacio Salafranca is to become Head of the EU Delegation to Argentina. Ana Paula Zacarias (Portugal) will head up the EU Delegation to Colombia and Jernej Videtic (Slovenia) in Guyana. The new Head of the EU Delegation to Haiti is to be French national Vincent Degert.
Africa. Jean Lamy (France) will become Head of the Delegation of the EU to Burkina Faso, and Denisa-Elena Ionete (Romania) will lead the EU Delegation to Chad. Alessandro Mariani (Italy) is to lead the EU Delegation to Zambia. Lina Marjaana Sall (Finland) has been appointed Head of the EU Delegation to Mauritius. Marcus Cornaro, an Austrian national, will become Head of the Delegation of the EU to South Africa, replacing Dutchman Roeland Van de Geer will take over as Head of the EU Delegation to Tanzania.
Asia. Polish national Tomasz Kozlowski has been appointed Head of the EU Delegation to India and Bhutan. Franz Jessen (Denmark) will become Head of the EU Delegation to the Philippines. He will be replaced as Head of the Delegation of the EU to Vietnam by Belgian Bruno Angelet.
Oceania. Ioannis Giogkarakis-Argyropoulos has been appointed Head of the EU Delegation to Papua New Guinea. (Camille-Cerise Gessant)
