14/07/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU reiterates its support for FDLR's disarmament. On Monday 13 July, the anniversary of the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant in 2012 for Sylvestre Mudacumura, the commander of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), the European Union reiterated its support for all actions to put a stop to the activities of all the armed groups operating in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). “Twenty years after the Rwandan genocide, the FDLR continue to sow terror among civilians in the east of Congo with regional ramifications”, says the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in a statement. The spokesperson adds that “military action against the FDLR with a view to their disarmament should take place as part of a joint operation between the Congolese army and Monusco” (our translation).
