Brussels, 23/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - Given the unprecedented variety and scale of humanitarian crises, the Council of the EU, meeting in Luxembourg on Monday 22 June, recognised the sense of more frequently providing cash to the vulnerable in need of aid, since providing assistance in this way reduces transaction costs and increases recipients' choices while maintaining their dignity and independence.
In conclusions adopted on the sidelines of the meeting of foreign ministers, the Council approved the ten common principles proposed by the European Commission for multi-purpose aid in the form of cash in response to humanitarian needs, with a view to making humanitarian aid more efficient and innovative. The Council calls on the EU, its member states and humanitarian partners to take account of these common principles. (Aminata Niang)
