19/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU could release another €70 million in recognition of reform efforts. At the end of his meeting with Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko on Thursday 18 June, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn announced that the EU could make additional funds available for Ukraine to “reward such enormous progress” in areas of the rule of law (see EUROPE 11337). Hahn stated that the amount was still not exact but should be around €70 million. This additional funding still has to be approved, Hahn said. In his opinion, the aid is both an “appreciation of what has already been done and a sort of obligation to continue” on the reform path. Hahn added that there was still much to be done - especially in terms of fighting corruption. (CG)
