17/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU supports AU appeal for crisis exit. On Wednesday 17 June, the day after the 25th African Union Summit that came to an end on Tuesday in Johannesburg, the European Union indicated that it had given its support to the appeal made by the African Union and the East African Community, to relaunch, as soon as possible, the dialogue between all the different political actors in Burundi. In a joint press release, the spokesperson for the EU High Representative, Federica Mogherini, and the Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, said: “The decisions adopted on the situation in Burundi constitute a crucial roadmap for finding a way out of the crisis in the country. Only a political solution based on consensus is capable of helping get the country out of this impasse and protecting security and democracy for all Burundi citizens”. They also explained: “It is important that all the different actors comply with the conditions formulated in the appeal”. (AN)
