Council to debate European Semester “employment” and “social” chapters

Brussels, 17/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - The 2015 budget process known as the “European Semester” will be at the heart of EU Employment Ministers' meeting on Thursday morning 18 June in Luxembourg.

The Council is also keen to prioritise the orientation debate on employment and social policy in the “2015 European Semester”. It is then expected to reach a political agreement on the employment policy guidelines from member states, as a contribution to the European Council.

Conclusions are also expected to be adopted on the special report by the European Court of Auditors on the Youth Guarantee (see EUROPE 11281) and the disparity in pensions between men and women. If there is no progress on these dossiers, the Council will just take note of the reports on the progress made in the work on the directive on equal treatment (see EUROPE 11217) and the directive on women's representation on the Board of Directors. The Presidency of the Council has chosen strategic orientations for 2020 between men and women, as its discussions theme for the dinner. (Jan Kordys)
