Increase in employment rates in 27 OECD countries in 2014. - Increased employment rates were observed in 27 OECD countries in 2014, according to the most recent OECD report on 20 April. Strong rises were recorded in Hungary (from 3.2 percentage points to 62.3%), Estonia (from 2.2 points, to 70.4%), Poland (from 1.9%, to 62.4%), the Slovak Republic (from 1.7 points, to 61.6%) and Spain (from 1.7 points, to 56.7%). The six countries where employment rates fell between the fourth quarter of 2013 and the fourth quarter of 2014 saw employment rates stabilise or rise in the fourth quarter of 2014 for five of these countries, explains the report. The OECD employment rates for young people also increased by 0.6 percentage points (to 39.9%) in the fourth quarter of 2014, compared to the fourth quarter of 2013, but with disparities between OECD countries. Employment rates for young people increased by 1.5 percentage points in the US (to 48.3%), while they remained stable in the Eurozone (to 30.8%). (Isabelle Lamberty)
