Brussels, 29/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, speaking on the sidelines of the EU-Ukraine summit on Tuesday 28 April, did not rule out “minor changes” to the European treaties to accommodate possible future demands from the UK, the BBC reported on Wednesday 29 April.
With the United Kingdom in the midst of campaigning ahead of the general election on 7 May, Juncker said that he wanted a “fair deal” for the UK but he excluded the possibility of any change to the treaty that would affect the rules on freedom of movement within the EU.
Juncker, who faced much criticism in the UK during the European election campaign, also said that he was still waiting for the UK to bring forward its proposals, requests and ideas. He repeated that, while he did not want the United Kingdom to leave the EU, neither did he want the UK to “impose a European agenda which would not be shared by others”. (Solenn Paulic)
