Council waiting for inter-institutional agreement

Brussels, 23/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - The Council of the EU is eagerly awaiting the draft inter-institutional agreement outlining the cooperation principles between the co-legislating European institutions that the European Commission is expected to adopt on 19 May.

In the meantime, the General Affairs Council discussed the member states' priorities in the following areas: annual and multiannual programming; the “better regulation” concept; impact assessment; delegated acts and the trilogue negotiations involving the Commission, Council and European Parliament, currently targeted by the European Ombudsman, due to their lack of transparency.

The Latvian Presidency of the Council will sum up the priorities of this institution in a letter to the First Vice-President of the Commission, Frans Timmermans. During the General Affairs Council, a broad convergence of views was observed between the Commission and the Council on the priority subjects of the future inter-institutional agreement. The agreement currently in force dates back to December 2003. (Lionel Changeur)
