Brussels, 23/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 23 April, the Internal Market Committee at the European Parliament adopted the “Gas Appliances” draft report (33 votes in favour, with 2 against and 2 abstentions) and the draft report on “Equipment for Individual Protection” (24 in favour, with 3 against). The reports were presented by Catherine Stihler (S&D, United Kingdom) and Vicky Ford (ECR, United Kingdom) respectively.
MEPs at the committee want gas cookers to be installed and serviced by professionals. They are calling on member states to ensure that the public is informed about the health risks and that dangerous products are withdrawn from the market. With regard to protective equipment, they want oven gloves to be subject to the same European safety rules, unless they are labelled as protective gloves.
The two MEPs obtained the go-ahead from the committee to begin informal negotiations with the Council. (Jean Comte)
