SECTORAL POLICIES / (ae) plants

16/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - Xyllela fastidiosa successfully dealt with in France. The French plan to prevent the introduction of the Xyllela fastidiosa bacterium was successful on 15 April, when agents intercepted a coffee seedling carrying the deadly bacterium at a Rungis plant dealer's (see EUROPE 11290). An inspection conducted on Thursday 16 April was able to confirm that there was no outbreak of Xylella fastidiosa. Risk of spread of the disease can be ruled out, the French Agriculture Ministry says. Monitoring has been stepped up, nevertheless, on other greenhouse plants potentially exposed to the bacterium. France has called for EU measures and will shortly be writing to the European Commission. (LC)
