Brussels, 15/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 15 April, the European Commission announced its green light for the disbursement of the first €100 million in macro-financial support for Tunisia. In the view of European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs Pierre Moscovici, Europe is thus “meeting its commitment” with regard to Tunisia, assuring it “macro-economic stability while creating more sustainable growth and more jobs”.
The assistance, which was decided upon in 2014 for a value of €300 million, is intended as support for Tunisia's economic transition and is subject to the launch of an economic reform plan, in liaison with the other international donors, the Commission states.
The assistance is due to be written into the IMF-led aid programme with which a “confirmation agreement was approved in June 2013”. Moscovici states that the specific European support is “linked to implementing a number of economic policy measures” following an agenda that Tunisia must respect. (Fathi B'Chir)
