SECTORAL POLICIES / (ae) transport

15/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - CEO of Etihad reminds Bulc of a few things. James Hogan, CEO of the United Arab Emirates airline Etihad, met Violeta Bulc, the European commissioner for transport, on Tuesday 14 April, to stress this company's contribution to the European economy. He referred to a study conducted by Oxford Economics, verifying that in 2014, the airline's activities contributed a total of $1 billion (€0.95 billion) to the combined GDP of the 28 member states and supported more than 28,000 jobs. Hogan described Etihad as a “partner” of the EU, and not “just another foreign airline flying to Europe to poach local traffic”. He added that “Etihad Airways is committed to Europe. A growing resistance to us from a handful of protectionist competitors could have unintended consequences” in terms of losses of jobs and investment on European soil. (JC)
