Brussels, 15/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 14 April, the European office of the Airports Council International (ACI Europe) called for the national airports of the EU to be consulted and involved in negotiations on international agreements on air traffic rights.
According to the organisation, as well as not being consulted, many airports do not even have access to the content of the agreements already in force. Olivier Jankovec, director general of ACI Europe, criticises the fact that “the mindset of some national aviation authorities seems to be stuck in the 1960s - when international aviation negotiations were exclusively focused on the interest of just one incumbent airline”. He hopes that the issue will be dealt with in the package on aviation competitiveness, to be presented by the European Commission before the end of this year (see EUROPE 11274). ACI Europe wrote last week on the subject to the transport ministers of the member states of the EU, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. (Jean Comte)
