10/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - MEPs call for independent inquiry into mass grave in Maluku. Gianni Pittella, the leader of the European Parliament's S&D Group, has been visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since 8 April and has spoken with the Congolese about the need for an “immediate independent” inquiry into the recent discovery of bodies in a mass grave in Maluku (east of Kinshasa). “The minister for justice [Thambwe Mwamba] promised us that he will call for an inquiry into this issue”, Pittella said on Friday 10 April. Pittella is accompanied on his visit to the DRC by Linda McAvan - the chair of the Parliament's development committee, Elena Valenciano - leader of the human rights sub-committee, Cécile Kyenge - deputy leader of the ACP-EU joint parliamentary assembly, and Marie Arena. They have met the DRC's Prime Minister Matata Ponyo Mapon and several members of the government. (Aminata Niang)
