Brussels, 10/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 8 April, the 34 members of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) gave their approval to the opening of accession talks with Lithuania and Costa Rica.
Since 2013, the two countries have been applying an action plan “designed to align their policies with OECD standards and to participate in OECD bodies.” OECD Members have expressed their satisfaction with the implementation of these action plans.
In a press release, OECD secretary general Angel Gurria says: “The opening of accession talks (…) will enhance the OECD's role as the house of best practices” in terms of finding answers to common economic challenges.
The appropriate ministers from both countries have been invited to a meeting of the OECD's Council at ministerial level in Paris in early June. (Mathieu Bion)
