Brussels, 07/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - In a message sent at the end of February to Michael Cramer (Greens/EFA, Germany), the chairman of the European Parliament's Transport Committee, Violeta Bulc, the European Commissioner for Transport clarified her vision of the activities provided by the Uber company. This company provides private transport services with its own drivers.
According to Bulc, “the services provided by Uber meet the expectations of at least a part of the population in terms of quality, price and availability”. She explained that “the Commission sees Uber as a business providing innovative and interesting transport services” that is part of the sharing economy, “which has the potential of making Europe more resource efficient”. The Commissioner added that her services would soon be launching a study into the effects of this service on the economy and society. According to a Commission source, this will involve locating the added value that could be introduced at a European level.
So far, the Commission has received four complaints from Uber against Spain and Germany (one complaint each) and two against France (see EUROPE 11287). (Jean Comte)
