ACP Group mobilises €20,000 in emergency aid for Vanuatu

Brussels, 07/04/2015 (Agence Europe) - The solidarity of the ACP (Africa, Caribbean, Pacific) Group is at work to help Vanuatu recover from Cyclone Pam which ravaged the archipelago on 13-14 March (see EUROPE 11276).

Responding to the call of the government of Vanuatu, the ACP Group rushed a humanitarian mission to the country on Thursday 2 April and mobilised €20,000 to finance emergency humanitarian aid. A cheque for this amount was given to the authorities of Vanuatu by Moses Mose, the ambassador for the Solomon Islands in Brussels, who was leading the mission. Accompanied by Noah Patrick Kouback, the counsellor of the Vanuatu embassy to the EU, Mose met members of the government of Vanuatu, the humanitarian agencies on the ground and representatives from the local communities in order to identify Vanuatu's priority needs for recovery and for rebuilding this small island state in the Pacific.
