Brussels, 20/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 19 March 2015, the European Commission launched a public consultation on measures to be taken to improve competition in the European aviation sector. The answers provided will help DG MOVE prepare the aviation strategy it is expected to present towards the end of the year.
In an accompanying document to the consultation formula, the Commission asserts that the liberalisation experienced in the sector during the 1990s, created a “boom” in aviation services. It points out, however, that the sector remains “volatile”, particularly because of the arrival of “new and powerful competitors”.
The consultation will last 12 weeks and ends on 10 June. Its launch was announced by the European Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc, at the end of the Transport Council on Friday 13 March (see EUROPE 11274). (Jean Comte)
