Brussels, 09/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - A conference on strengthening the integrated maritime policy in the Mediterranean basin took place at the headquarters of the Committee of the Regions on 3-5 March, at the initiative of the Italian region of Molise.
The Spanish, French and Italian regions took part in this conference, along with the European institutions (the European Commission and Parliament). Three round table discussions were held on environmental challenges, employment and the search for synergies between uses of the sea and coastal areas.
The objective of the conference was to hold a mid-term review of the action taken as part of the COM&CAP MarInA-Med project (Communication and Capitalisation of Maritime Integrated Approach in the Mediterranean Area). According to an official presentation, this EU-supported project has been designed for the benefit of the regions on the north shore of the Mediterranean as “a unique project to take care of the communication and capitalisation activities of the other 13 approved projects over the 2014-2015 year”.
At the end of the conference, recommendations were adopted for the benefit of the Mediterranean community for the 2014-2020 programming period. The recommendations were on the environmental challenges, the economy, employment and the search for synergies between uses of the sea and coastal areas. (Fathi B'Chir)
