Brussels, 09/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Saturday 7 March, the European Union strongly condemned the terrorist attack that left several people dead - three from Mali, a French national and a Belgian - during a gun raid on clients at an establishment in Bamako.
“I am shocked and saddened by the terrorist attack in Bamako in which a Belgian security officer working for the European Union delegation to Mali has died”, said European Council President Donald Tusk, who also offered his condolences to the families, colleagues and friends of the victims. “The European Union will not be intimidated by terrorism, at home or abroad”, he stated, giving assurances that the EU will continue to bring its support to the efforts in Mali to restore peace, security and the rule of law there.
“With deep sadness”, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini underlined this message, saying that “this act only reinforces the importance of concluding a peace agreement in Mali so that law, order and security can be ensured throughout the country”.
