Brussels, 09/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 9 March in Brussels, the Commissioner for the Digital Economy, Günther Oettinger, inaugurated the “European Summit on Innovation for Active and Healthy Ageing”. In 2060, the European Union will be faced with the direct challenge of the ageing population because one in three Europeans will be 65 years old or more. The Commissioner stated, “Ageing will impact on many sectors in our economy. All of them can benefit from technological innovation at the service of an ageing population”. In a speech made during the afternoon, the Commissioner for Research, Carlos Moedas, welcomed the assistance provided for funding the Horizon 2020 programme for innovative programmes that help senior citizens.
