Brussels, 05/03/2015 (Agence Europe) - The MEP Cora van Nieuwenhuizen (ALDE, Netherlands), who is heading up the work at the EP on the proposed regulation to fight the manipulation of benchmarks, has been obliged to ask for the vote on this dossier by the economic committee of the Parliament, initially scheduled for this 9 March, to be postponed.
Most of the questions remain open: scope, proportionality, supervision, the issue of commodity benchmarks, etc. The text is however expected to be ready by April, the rapporteur has promised. “There are reasons for optimism”, Van Nieuwenhuizen said in an interview with Vieuws which was published on Thursday 5 March. She went on to say that most of the shadow rapporteurs supported her general approach, although a number of details was still to be discussed. She also said that in light of the investigations and abuses in the commodity benchmarks sector, the regulation was necessary for them as well. (Elodie Lamer)
