Brussels, 19/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - The leaders of the Party of European Socialists (PES) will meet in Madrid on Saturday 21 February to discuss how to respond to extremism and terrorism, the party has announced in a press release.
The meeting, organised by the Spanish Socialist Party (PSOE), will bring together prime ministers and European commissioners to “discuss issues such as our common fight against extremism, a particularly urgent matter since the tragic events in Paris and Denmark”, says the press release. “Another top priority for the PES family will be a joint declaration that will outline the PES roadmap for creating more, better and fairer jobs”, it goes on.
PES President Sergei Stanishev said: “One of the main goals of Saturday's meeting is to ensure that what happened in Paris and Denmark does not happen again. If we want to preserve the security of everyone, we need to promote inclusive, tolerant societies that respect our democratic principles and the rule of law. The other key priority of the PES leaders will be to define a clear set of principles and actions to foster sustainable growth, social and gender equality and decent jobs for all citizens”.
