On Wednesday 18 February, the European Union called on the Iranian authorities to abide by international human rights law, and not to execute Saman Nassem. The execution of juvenile offenders is a violation of international minimum standards, states the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. According to reports, the Iranian authorities are about to execute 22-year-old Saman Naseem, who was 17 years old at the time he was convicted for armed action against the Revolutionary Guards. (CG)
