Single supervision - Luc Coene member of Governing Council

Brussels, 19/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 19 February, the Governing Council of the ECB appointed the Governor of the Banque Nationale de Belgique, Luc Coene, a member of the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), with effect from Wednesday 11 March.

The Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism, which is chaired by Danièle Nouy of France and Germany's Sabine Lautenschläger, directly supervises nearly 120 systemic banks of the eurozone (see EUROPE 11190). In March 2014, the following were appointed as members of the Supervisory Board by the ECB: Finland's Sirkka Hämäläinen, former Governor of the Bank of Finland, the Canadian Julie Dickson, who chaired the Canadian financial markets' authority until 2014, and Ignazio Angeloni of Italy, a senior ECB official since 2008 and the head of the 'financial stability' department.

Coene will be replaced at the head of the Banque Nationale de Belgique by Jan Smets. (Mathieu Bion)
