Brussels, 04/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - During the World Cancer Day on 4 February, the Commissioner for Health, Vytenis Andriukaitis, met the president and vice president of the European Cancer Patient Coalition (ECPC) to discuss inequality in cancer treatment, as well as other subjects.
The Commissioner pointed out that the European Commission had drawn up a “European code against cancer”, which had incorporated the recommendations by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to reduce the risks of getting cancer. The European code provides a 12-point summary of these recommendations: do not smoke and avoid passive smoking environments; be physically active; eat and drink healthily; maintain a reasonable weight; limit alcohol consumption; protect yourself from the sun; take adequate safety measures at work; avoid radon emissions; breastfeed; vaccinate children and make use of screening facilities.
