Lessons learned from innovation in services

Brussels, 04/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 3 February, the European Commission published a number of different reports on the benefits of innovation in services. They cover a regional and national score board of innovation in services in 2015, as well as different analyses carried out by the European Service Innovation Centre (set up in 2012 to examine the dynamics of these services).

The conclusions drawn from the service innovation scoreboard at national and regional levels highlight the positive associations that exist between economic performance, specialisation in knowledge-intensive services and the input of innovation and the wider framework conditions. Although comparable service innovation frameworks and characteristics can be identified in some member states, several approaches could prove appropriate, according to the data highlighted on the 2015 scoreboard. It therefore appears that there is no 'one-size-fits-all' service innovation model in Europe, according to the European Service Innovation Centre. One problem that needs to be resolved is the time lag between the introduction of a service innovation initiative and the stage when its impact can accurately be assessed. (MD)
