Brussels, 19/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - To complement the efforts already undertaken by the EU in Mali, through the EUTM Mali military mission, for example, the Council decided on Monday 19 January to launch a second Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) mission. This, however, will be a civilian mission.
EUCAP Sahel Mali is an assistance mission in building civil security capacity. It will advise on the reform of the civil security sector and train the three internal security forces in Mali - the police, Gendarmerie and Garde Nationale. It is scheduled to continue until 15 January 2017 and a budget (joints costs) of €11.4 million has been allocated for the first year. The mission will be led by Albrecht Conze. (JK)
