Growth in European automobile sector increases

Brussels, 19/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - The automobile sector's recovery was further consolidated in 2014. According to the European Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA) on Friday 16 January, 12.5 million new passenger cars were registered in the EU from January to December. The ACEA confirmed that with 5.7% growth posted in 2014, new car registrations increased for the first time since 2007 after having been on the decline for six consecutive years. Looking at the largest markets, the ACEA demonstrated that Spain recorded the largest increase over the year (+18.1%) followed by the UK (+9.3%), Italy (+4.2%) and Germany (+2.9%), while France remained stable (+0.3%). In December alone, EU passenger car sales topped 951,329 units. (MD)
