08/12/2014 (Agence Europe) - EU General Court suspends buildings insurance contracts signed by European Commission. The president of the General Court of the EU ordered the Commission on Friday 5 December to suspend the decision awarding an insurance contract to a broker while the Court considers the matter (case T199/14R). The decision by the Court president relates to a contract, entered into in January 2014, between the Commission, which was also acting for other EU institutions and agencies, and the insurance broker Marsh SA, to insure buildings and their contents. An appeal was lodged by broker Vanbreda Risk & Benefits, the EU institutions' previous insurer which took part in the new call for tender along with Marsh SA. The Court president identified serious irregularities in the procedure for awarding the contract, with potentially serious, though not irreparable, harm to Vanbreda Risk & Benefits. (JK)
