Turkey is the seventh biggest cinema market in Europe . - With 50.4 million cinema tickets sold in 2013, Turkey is now the seventh largest cinema market in Europe in terms of ticket sales, according to a recent report from the European Audiovisual Observatory. The top six are the five biggest cinema markets in the EU (France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and Spain) and the Russian Federation. Gross profits from cinema rose to €200 million in 2013, a record in Turkey's recent history. The frequency at which people go the cinema in Turkey is, however, among the lowest in Europe at 0.7 per inhabitant per year, compared with the EU average of 1.8, although the Turkish market has seen a remarkable rise in admissions year on year. Unlike the other, mostly mature, markets in the EU, which are declining, the Turkish market is growing by 6 to 7% a year and is expected to reach maturity in 2018. (IL)
