Brussels, 24/11/2014 (Agence Europe) - The European think tank Notre Europe-Institut Jacques Delors, ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) and UniFrance films have published a report on the dissemination of European cinema in the European Union and on the international market between 2002 and 2014.
The report takes into account all those working in the film industry, focusing more specifically on four countries - Germany, Spain, France and Italy - before making recommendations that seek to raise the profile of the European cinema industry. The conclusion of the report is unequivocal: only stronger support, particularly for distribution, and acceptance of regulation will allow the real development of solid national cinemas. Three recommendations appear key to ensuring the diversity and dissemination of European films: 1) better support to European cinema operators to ensure a full network of cinemas across Europe so as to be able to provide the public with varied works reflecting the richness and diversity of global production; 2) devise a form of regulation suited to the present economic and technological times thanks to an increase in aid to the distribution of European films in Europe and outside Europe, with a view to widening dissemination; 3) give European productions a central place in public television programming and encourage new distribution channels.
