China a promising market for European operators

Brussels, 05/11/2014 (Agence Europe) - ETNO, the European Telecommunications Network Operators' Association, began a visit to “digital China” on Monday 3 November to assess the opportunities and challenges of the rapidly expanding Chinese market for European operators. A number of high-level meetings have been arranged between ETNO representatives and the high-fliers of the Chinese digital and telecoms sector during the course of the several-day visit.

EU-China relations are crucial in today's global digital value chain. For this reason, we are strong supporters of an open and continuous dialogue between China and EU in the field of internet and broadband policies”, said ETNO Chairman Luigi Gambardella. In his speech to the Chamber of Commerce in China, Gambardella set out for business people the opportunities offered by the European market in innovative services and ultra-fast networks. The first political messages delivered by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and his team of commissioners are “very promising” in terms of attracting new investors and creating the necessary conditions for a new phase of market growth, said Gambardella. Referring to European Commission initiatives to create a digital single European market, the ETNO chairman said that he gave them his full backing in order to be able to develop digital economy relations between the EU and China.
