On Thursday 16 October, the European Commission sent reasoned opinions to the Netherlands and the United Kingdom requesting them to compensate for the loss of EU traditional own resources (customs duties) to the EU budget. These arose because of customs certificates issued by their overseas countries and territories in breach of Decision 91/482/EEC and of Decision 2001/822/EC (overseas association decision). The...
