10/10/2014 (Agence Europe) - Meucci appointed head of EULEX Kosovo. On Thursday 9 October, Gabriele Meucci from Italy was appointed by the EU's Political and Security Committee as the new head of EULEX Kosovo, the rule of law mission conducted by the EU in Kosovo. Meucci, who speaks Serbian, will take up his role on 15 October - initially until 14 June 2015. He will take over from Bernd Borchardt, who has held the post since 1 February 2013. The mission's objective is to assist and support the Kosovan authorities in areas linked to the rule of law, focusing more specifically on the police, the judicial system and customs. The mission is in the process of being reconfigured, due to the gradual transfer of its essential tasks to the local authorities and other EU actors (see EUROPE 11100). (CG)
